Father's Day Is Almost Here!

It's just a little over 2 weeks until Father's Day 2014.  Have you got dad anything yet?

Keeping Pet Hair Under Control

If you're an animal lover, you've had to deal with your pet's hair shedding all over, or maybe you still are dealing with it.

I used to have a yellow lab.  I've often said "He's the best dog that ever owned me."  The only drawback was yellow labs shed like crazy.  It would seem you could look at him and watch the hair fall off.

So how do you keep on top of it? No one wants to vacuum every day.  These simple steps will help you keep pet hair to a manageable level.

#1) Brush your pet(s) daily.  It only takes a few minutes per pet and the more hair you remove with the brush the less hair you have to deal with on clothes, furniture and floors.

#2) Between vacuuming use Fuller Brush's Electrostatic Carpet Sweeper on your flooring.  This is our #1 selling hard product, so it must be good.  It only takes a few minutes to go over your floors and the hair and other dirt collected is easily dumped into the trash bag. Despite the name, it works on both carpeting and hard flooring.

This isn't a replacement for your vacuum cleaner but is handy (and quicker) for cleaning up between vacuuming.

#3) You can also use a dry mop on hard flooring. Fuller has several options, lately I've been using the Dynamic Duo Micro Mop.  One side is a dry mop, the other a wet mop.  Use the dry mop side to collect pet hairs, dust and dirt from the floor.  Then by lightly spraying the floor with Fiesta Floor Cleaner (sold in concentrated form, dilute in your spray bottle) go over the floor again with the wet mop side. 

There are a couple ways to clean your mop after use.  I usually would put a plastic bag around the mop and shake it well.  This would get a majority of the hair off of the mop.  You can also use a rubber glove and hand strip the hairs off.  A way I heard about, but have not tried, is to put the mop head and several wet rags in the dryer.  This apparently causes the hair to come loose and be caught in the lint trap.  As I said, I've never tried this, I am just passing it along as a possible solution.

I would usually vacuum twice a week and use the above in between.  I found I could use the microfiber mop a couple times before it needed washing.  For that reason I found it useful to have a couple extra mop heads handy so I could let them get dirty and then launder with other cleaning rags.

Fulsol to the rescue! Again...

Fulsol Degreaser is Fuller Brush's best selling cleaning product.  It really should be called "Cleaner/Degreaser" because it does so much more than degreasing.

Below is a picture of a stain on my carpet from some something, I'm not sure who spilled what.  I only know it was dry and set when I found it.

So before shampooing the carpet I got out my bottle of Fulsol Spray (mixed 3/4oz Fulsol added to water to make 1 quart of spray cleaner) and sprayed the stain.  I then used a brush to scrub the area and get the Fulsol into the carpet fibers.  

I let it set and work while I got the carpet shampooer ready to go.

Every home should have a bottle of Fulsol handy!  As a hint, Fulsol comes in a gallon jug, if you want a smaller bottle (once you start using it you'll wish you had bought the gallon) you can buy a quart of "The Original Degreaser" under the Stanley Home Products label.

How are you venting?

Well, not you personally.  How is your clothes dryer venting?  If there's any obstructions, built-up lint, etc your dryer is working harder then it needs to.  That also means you're wasting money having to pay to keep it running longer to get your clothes dry.  Which in turn will create more lint, more build-up, on and on.

What to do about it?
